Coveted Closets

The drive to Kerry Graham’s house feels as though you might be entering the suburbia world of Edmond. Upon arrival though, the feel immediately changes.

Tucked away off a backroad one will enter a modern Utopia. In the shape of a “U” the house has sleek lines, with the exterior painted a matte grey. While the exterior of the house is impressive itself, it’s Graham’s style that catches the eye of people.

Dressed in distressed boyfriend cut Levi’s jeans, a black and white striped crop top and studded flats, Graham has a feminine tomboyish look. The clothes that fill her closet reflect her unique style.

“I love mixing and matching,” Graham, 40, said. “I go through phases. At one point I dressed in bohemian clothing all the time, so my closet was filled with Free People and Anthropologie pieces. Now I dress a little edgier.”

A native of Moore, Graham said she has seen Oklahoma evolve and grow when it comes to the world of fashion. But it hasn’t been until the last few years that Graham has started to come into her own with her style.

“I have always loved fashion and interior design. I’ve never been afraid to try something new. For some time, I felt self-conscious about my style because of how conservative taste can be here. At a certain point though, you just don’t care what other people think,” she said.

On her petite frame, several tattoos cover her arms. Her favorite tattoo is a Native American girl on her left arm.

“I made the decision to start getting tattoos because I always wanted them. You have this idea in your mind that if you’re a certain age you can’t do certain things. And because I’m a mother of three, I had a preconceived notion that other people would look at me strange.”

It is Graham’s carefree attitude that reflects her clothing as well as how she designed her home, filled with eclectic goodies, wallpaper emblazoned with the ever-popular mustache, and the fun mix of bold colors.

Graham’s husband, Brian, sits back and allows her to take the reins when it comes to decorating. Graham admits she has influenced her husband’s style, who also has an edgy style.

“When I first met him, he wore jeans and a polo. Now he’s not afraid to venture out and try new things.”

Her husband even knows the way to her heart, “Not too long ago he took me on a shopping spree to my favorite store, Top Shop. I absolutely love that place.”

Graham feels someone’s personal style is a reflection of who that person is, “Your clothes should make you feel good. Whenever you walk out of the house, you should feel like yourself.”

As Graham ventures out to start her own interior design business, she carries out the mantra of staying true to oneself in her home with her kids.

When her children walk out of their bedrooms they face a wall filled with positive sayings.

Graham’s favorite?

“Be you,” she said.

Graham certainly lives up to her personal mantra.
